Tenant Highlight: Forging the Way for Metalworking in the Arts Community

Welcome a Metal Art Space to The Yard on Santa Fe.

The Denver art scene is perpetually flourishing and The Sherman Agency, Inc. is glad to provide an avenue for yet another artistic entrepreneur to hammer ground in the city.  Located at the corner of 1st and Santa Fe Drive, The Yard is a development that boasts notable businesses including a woman-owned roasted craft coffee shop, a screen-printing business and bar, and a popular family-owned BBQ restaurant. Hardy & Fuller is the latest minority-owned business to accompany the bustling retail area at 924 West 1st Avenue, Suite 190, Denver, CO 80223.  Hardy & Fuller aims to foster an inventive sanctuary for the LGBTQ+ community to learn the craft of metal art working including creating jewelry, establishing blacksmithing techniques, and welding.  Join us and their neighbors at The Yard in welcoming them to the area.

Meet Ashe | In their Own Words

Hardy & Fuller is a unique project that combines several goals to enrich and improve the artistic community in Denver, Colorado. First, to offer a safe space for those underrepresented in specialized metal trades, such as women and the LGBTQ+, disabled, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of colorcommunities. Second, to provide the community with access to a fully equipped shop that facilitates the development and creation of metal artworks. Last, but definitely not least, to build a nonprofit that will fund an artist in the residency program, scholarship opportunities for disadvantaged youth, as well as any other ways to bring the confidence and strength of metalworking to those that need it the most.

Founder, Ashe Thorne, is a BIPOC, queer artist local to Colorado. Their obsession with metal began when they were young, working on old hot rods with their grandfather and father. This interest was rekindled at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where they received their BFA and first experienced the art of blacksmith techniques. They have worked in many types of metal fabrication shops that lend to their vast knowledge of tooling and building techniques. Since then they have worked in the arts community for almost a decade, teaching youth and teens at The Art Students League of Denver, as well as traditional coal blacksmith classes hosted at The Wyman Living History Ranch and Museum, through Colorado Northwestern Community College. It was here they learned their love of teaching this art form to others, and have pursued that ever since.

The Space & More

In February 2022, Hardy & Fuller successfully signed a 5-year lease with The Sherman Agency, Inc. at The Yard, an artistic complex on south Santa Fe Drive. They will be joining Copper Door Coffee Roaster, So Many Roads Brewery, as well as several other unique Denver businesses. The Sherman Agency was gracious enough to work with Hardy & Fuller as a new business owner and first-time commercial space lessee, and we couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity!

Hardy & Fuller should be open to the public around June 2022 and will highlight tools such as a fully-equipped blacksmith shop, a CNC Plasma Table, TIG and MIG welders, and an entire jewelry studio. Ashe will provide these tools and knowledge to the public, as well as specialty classes and events. Please subscribe to our website at www.hardyandfuller.com for further information on Grand Opening, resources, and so much more! We look forward to serving your artistic curiosity very soon!
